Founded in Paris, France on 2010 and registered both in Paris and Hong Kong. The initial plans of seeking partnerships with tanners and leather makers of South East Asia, to bring up the challenging project of producing luxury leather goods with European technology and innovation, regretfully didn’t happened, specially due to the lack of vision and quality standards of all local potential partners approached.
After more than four years of extensive search and evaluation of different tanneries and leather-makers, it show us that there is an important gap in the industry of this region, which deserves to be taken into account. There are important renewal sources of exotic raw skins, from fishes up to reptiles, such as crocodiles (from extensive farming to snakes that have become pests). But due to backward mentality and greediness from most of the local SE Asian leather companies. The so called: Asian specialists in exotics, with such a low quality standards, that the only market they can reach, is the Chinese. Most Asian customers (ignorant of any taste or sense of quality) that are only seeking luxury bargains. With exception of a couple of proper Singaporean tanneries in whole Asia, are the exclusive specialists in crocodile tanning. To the point, that two years ago the LVMH group has acquired them. Taking majority stake in the company securing top class leather supply.
Pelle Magna had no choice than starting production in Europe, achieving an excellent product that it is unique and exclusive.
Pelle Magna’s concept is set for the future, having the know-how and expertise acquired after more than 35 years in the trade, we are ready to provide all technical expertise in tanning exotics and creating exquisite leathers that can be source for magnificent luxury products. We are specialists in Shagreen aka Galuchat, having lately developed a unique range of leathers with a “patented coating”. Setting up a future “state of the art” tanning facility, is the main objective in the coming years. Luxury is the fastest growing segment of the fashion industry. More and more, creativity mixed with innovation and with responsibility are the main components for demanding consumers.
We are proud to claim that there is no one, in the Shagreen leather segment that can match us. We want to bring back this unique and under valued precious material, that currently is being wasted and poorly made, in which almost no one in the value chain really benefits. It’s reputation is being tarnished by the awful quality and poor taste of the articles produced in SE Asia. You can see them in all main airport duty frees. By accessing this link, you will be able to see some examples of these poor shagreen skins made in Thailand, painted in ridicoulous designs (tiger, zebra, etc) destroying all the natural charasteristics of these unique skins : http://www.exoticleather.biz/stingray_leather.htm?skin_type=302
